Welcome
My name is Akvile Constantinou. I am an experienced integrative counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and Accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)
I practice in accordance to BACP ethical guidelines and facilitate a non-judgmental, confidential space to explore your difficulties with empathic understanding and an individually tailored approach

My Training: I am fully insured, and DBS checked therapist, qualified with a first class (BSc Hons) counselling degree, accredited by the BACP.
My experience includes working with BAME communities in a culturally sensitive therapy capacity and running a busy private practice both in person and online. I deliver open ended therapy to clients experiencing a range of psychological difficulties, including work related stress, identity crisis, childhood trauma, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, domestic violence, emotional/social isolation and suicidal ideation. I also have a keen interest and experience in developing and delivering mental health projects to vulnerable communities.

Our First Session:
In our first session we will discuss your preferred way of working explore your concerns and set therapy aims. Should you decide to continue working with me following the assessment; we will agree the frequency, date and time for your therapy sessions, which will be reserved exclusively for you.
About my therapy practice
I work pluralistically, which means that I draw on different approaches and tailor the therapy to suit your individual needs. I believe that you are the expert of your life and encourage you to be an active participant in a decision-making process that shapes your therapy sessions. I encourage a collaborative dialogue, which enables us to identify your preferences and utilise any personal strengths and (cultural) inner resources you would consider helpful in meeting your aims and gain perspective on your troubles.
I invite you to think of therapy as a metaphorical journey of self-exploration, where you are the driver, and I am a passenger with the map. We will draw up this map together in the assessment session by reflecting on life experiences from your past and present and will then visit these places during the process of therapy. Thereby you will understand how your way of being may have been impacted by your background, environment and specific experiences that shape who you are, how you think and behave today. You will then be able to evaluate and replace unhelpful thought processes and behaviours with new perspectives that are in line with your values and authentic self.
