Hello, I am Sophie, a Creative Psychotherapist based at TherapEast.
My belief is that it is possible for us all to live life authentically but that it often gets very tricky for us to do so, which causes problems and pain. Therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable and safe enough to be honest, to hear your own voice again and to continue to learn more about the person you are and find ways to live the life you want to live.
Arts based psychotherapy is a holistic and trauma-informed approach to wellness and healing. This is a practice open to everybody. It promotes emotional and nervous system regulation while also inviting you to access and meet with different parts of yourself. Some parts may be hidden away with stories waiting to be told, while others are perhaps overworked or playing out roles only to please others.
Talking through our feelings and situations can allow us to feel seen, validated and connected, all vital to feeling better. Sometimes our tricky problem-solving minds can get caught in loops and therefore finding other ways to express ourselves and encourage our subconscious material to emerge, can be transformative and offer brand new perspectives. This can be through embodied practice and working with metaphor (art making, object projection, stories, exploring roles).
Alongside my private practice, I am currently developing and introducing a new Arts Psychotherapy treatment pathway within an NHS acute inpatient mental health service for adults.
I work primarily with adults, offering some sessions to young people (6+) too. My experience ranges from working in forensics services, the NHS (CAMHS and Adult), Secondary schools across London and a bereavement charity for all ages.
I am available on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, between 10am and 8pm. Sessions cost £75. Please feel welcome to get in touch regarding a free initial chat.
