Hello

Hi, I'm Katie. I'm a Person-centred and pluralistic therapist.

I work with individuals and couples.

I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

About Katie

I work with adults and couples who are experiencing difficulties in areas of their lives.

I will provide a warm, welcoming, non-judgmental and confidential space for you to explore all parts of yourself safely and at a pace that's right for you. Working together, you will experience a compassionate approach to allow you to explore different elements of yourself and your concerns openly.

I believe that individuals have the capacity to create amazing, inspiring changes in their lives, and I take a collaborative approach, working with you as an individual, to ensure the best possible outcome. I will do my best to listen to your thoughts and feelings, in order to understand the full story before exploring patterns and examining the issues at hand together.

I specialise in working with adult survivors of difficult or traumatic childhoods. Maybe something happened when you were young, or you experienced a parent who was emotionally absent or neglectful in some way, and you notice that shaped the way that you see yourself and the world, and has an impact on you in your adult life and relationships. Maybe your parent struggled with their own mental health issues, substance abuse or narcissism. Therapy can give you the time and space to explore this safely and begin to understand the impact that this has on your world.

I take a pluralistic approach to our work. This means that I'm trained in lots of different approaches, like ACT and IFS, systemic and psychodynamic - sometimes we'll just talk things through, and at other times, we might work in a more creative or directive way, to get the most out of our time together.

I have experience around counselling for depression and anxiety, bereavement, relationships, work related stress, burnout and self-confidence, and extended training and experience around parenting issues (particularly teenagers), drugs, alcohol and cross-cultural issues.

Couples work

I work with couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship. I work in a Psychodynamic and Systemic way - this means that the focus is often on the relationship as much as the individuals within it. We might examine ways of relating and past experiences to discover patterns that have been created, slow things down, see things from different perspectives and explore ideas to co-create new ways of being in the relationship.

It might be that you both want different things, and we can work together to gently explore and challenge both perspectives.

As a couples therapist, my role is to help you to explore more deeply, to speak openly without fear or shame, and to challenge where necessary. The work might be uncomfortable at times but together we can create a safe atmosphere to help you to navigate complicated issues.

Counselling will give you the space to examine your thoughts and work out what's best for you.

I believe that people are capable of awe-inspiring changes and it's a privilege to work alongside clients and see them change, grow and develop in so many ways. My core training is person-centred, but I've done lots of additional training around working with families, grief, trauma, attachment and parenting. I also work with employee assistance programmes around work-related stress, offering solution-focused brief therapy.
